Start your writing year with a fizz of creativity. In this new year writing ‘marathon’, you’ll be guided through quickfire poetry, visual prompts and wordy challenges to keep your pen moving, outpace your internal critic, and find fresh perspectives & surprising ideas for new poems and stories. It really works for me and it’s loads of fun!
This workshop style is based on what has sparked my best poems last year, plus prize-winning poems from others and even the beginning of a novel!
The theme is traversing place: your year’s terrain, a local area or landscape. Tussle with point of view, skip into surreal, slide into lucidity, and perhaps dip into past, present & future. If you want to, you can also ‘bring’ any theme you are working on or thoughts from 2020’s diary to ‘lean up against’ the writing challenges.
It’s been one hell of a 2020 but a good year for connecting up online across the world with our writing from across Australia to the UK. Meet old and new friends from both hemispheres. We’ll end with a optional sharing of writing in breakout groups. (This is a group writing session designed to get the writing flowing, not focused on writing feedback.)
Give your 2021 creative force!

Your workshops have helped me develop as a writer, freed me up and given me new ways into my poetry. Thank you. Colin
You’ve inspired me to try out different ways of writing and adopt different subjects that I would never have explored on my own. I’ve surprised myself and also found out a lot about myself. Eleanor
It had been difficult to get into my writing during this anxious time but this group has been uplifting, with a real sense of togetherness, wonderfully apt themes, poems and writing assignments. Just what I needed to jump-start new work. Nancy
